Custom Embroidery & Print Workwear Orders: Your Questions Answered

September 21, 2026

If you’re ordering embroidered workwear or printed workwear for the first time, you may have a few questions about the process.

At First Avenue Supplies, we help businesses choose suitable workwear garments and find the right way to add their branding. With more than 20 years of experience, we’re happy to guide you through the options and answer any questions before you place an order.

Your Questions About Custom Embroidery & Print Orders

Here are some of the most commonly asked questions about our printing and embroidery process.

What’s the difference between embroidered and printed branding for work clothing?

Both embroidery and print are ways of adding your company branding to workwear, but they use different processes and can give your garments a different finish.

With embroidery, your company logo is stitched directly onto the garment. With print, your logo or design is applied to the workwear using a printing process.

There isn’t necessarily one right choice for every business. The most suitable option can depend on the garment you’re choosing, your logo and what you’re looking for from your branded workwear.

If you’re not sure whether embroidered workwear or printed workwear is right for you, our production team can advise you based on your requirements.

Is embroidery or print better for branding my company workwear with my logo?

It really depends on what you’re ordering.

Different workwear garments and logos can lend themselves to different personalisation methods, which is why we don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach.

Whether you’re looking for an embroidered logo or a printed logo, we can talk through your requirements and advise on the most suitable option for your workwear.

If you’re ordering branded workwear for a team for the first time, there’s no need to know all the answers before you contact us. That’s what we’re here to help with.

What type of logo file do I need for you to be able to add it to my workwear?

The type of artwork you need depends on whether you’re having your company logo embroidered or printed.

For embroidery

An embroidered logo requires a DST embroidery file. This is a specialist file used to tell the embroidery machinery how your logo should be stitched onto the garment.

If you already have a suitable DST file, there’s no embroidery setup charge. If you don’t, we can draw your company logo up as an embroidery file for you.

For print

For printed workwear, we require vector artwork. Our existing guidance recommends PNG or EPS files.

If you’re unsure what type of file you have, don’t worry. Send it over and we can advise you on whether it’s suitable for your printed logo.

Do I get to see what my logo will look like when it’s embroidered or printed on a garment before you start?

Yes. When you’re ordering a new embroidered logo or printed logo, we provide a sample for you to approve before production.

Your branding is produced onto swatch material in a colour of your choice, giving you the opportunity to see what the finished result is expected to look like before we personalise your workwear garments.

The sample can be photographed and emailed to you, collected in person or posted out.

It’s a useful step in the process and gives you the chance to make sure you’re happy with your branding before the full order goes ahead.

Can you embroider or print any design onto my selected workwear garments?

The artwork needs to be suitable for the personalisation method you’re using, so not every design will work in exactly the same way for embroidery and print.

This can be particularly important for detailed logos or designs that need to be reproduced at a particular size.

For embroidery, we can draw your logo up as an embroidery file using your existing artwork as a guide. If you don’t have a suitable file, don’t assume that means we can’t help, even a photograph of a logo can sometimes provide enough information for us to work from.

If you’re unsure whether your company logo is suitable for embroidered or printed workwear, speak to our team and we’ll advise you.

Whereabouts on my company uniform can my logo be embroidered or printed?

The left-hand side of the chest is the most common position for a company logo on workwear, but there are other options.

Depending on the garment and your requirements, your branding can also be placed on the right chest, back of the neck or top of the sleeve.

The size and colour of an embroidered logo can also be adapted to suit your requirements.

If you’re not sure where your logo would work best, our team can advise you. The aim is to create branded workwear that looks professional while remaining practical for the people wearing it.

How do I choose the right size for my logo when adding it to company workwear?

The right size for your logo depends on the garment, where you want it positioned and the design itself.

A logo may need to be adjusted depending on whether it’s going on the chest, sleeve, back of the neck or another area of the garment. The same applies when you’re using different types of workwear, as the available space can vary between garments.

Our team can advise on the appropriate size and positioning for your embroidered logo or printed logo, so you don’t have to work it out on your own.

Can you embroider company names as well as company logos onto garments?

Yes. As well as company logos, we can type company names or individual text and shape and size it to suit.

This can be useful if you want straightforward company or individual text on your workwear, either alongside your main branding or instead of a more detailed logo.

How long does custom embroidery or printing on workwear take?

Turnaround times depend on how busy we are and the time of year.

During quieter periods, personalised workwear orders can take around one week. During busier periods, turnaround can be up to two weeks.

We’ll advise you on the expected turnaround when you place your order. If you have a particular deadline, let us know when you get in touch so we can take that into account.

Can I order different garments for different members of my team?

Your whole team doesn’t necessarily need to wear exactly the same garment.

Different members of your team may have different roles and requirements, and you may want to choose different workwear garments while keeping your company branding consistent.

First Avenue Supplies offers a wide range of workwear, so we’re happy to talk through what your team needs and help you choose suitable garments.

If you’re creating a company uniform, we can help you consider the different options while keeping your embroidered logo or printed logo consistent across your branded workwear.

What happens if I need to order more branded clothing later?

Teams change and businesses grow, so it’s not unusual to need additional branded clothing further down the line.

If you need more workwear garments for new members of staff or replacements for existing team members, get in touch and we can discuss your requirements and provide a quote.

If you’re setting up a new company uniform, it’s worth thinking about the different garments your team may need from the beginning. Choosing a consistent approach to your branding can make future orders much easier to manage.

Can I return company-branded clothing if it doesn’t fit?

Personalised workwear cannot be returned, so it’s important to make sure you’re happy with your clothing choices and sizing before your embroidered logo or printed logo is added.

For local business customers, we can provide blank samples to take away so staff can try the garments on before you commit to the full order. Samples should be returned clean and in good condition within two weeks.

We also provide a sample of a new embroidered or printed logo for approval before production.

Taking the time to check your sizing and approve your branding before production can help make sure your finished company workwear is right for your team from the start.
